New US version of Vicar of Dibley in the works
Kirstie Alley best known for her role in the US comedy, Cheers is to play the lead role in a US version of the hit BBC comedy The Vicar of Dibley.
The new show will only be a pilot episode to begin with but if it is a success it could be turned into a full series.
The Pilot entitled The Minister of Divine will be made for The Fox TV network and will be co-produced by Vicar of Dibley creator Richard Curtis.
In The Minister of Divine, Alley, who is 56, will star as a preacher who returns to the small town where she grew up as a teenage rebel.
It is claimed that Suzanne Martin, the writer of the show has made Alley’s character far more “outrageous” than Dawn French’s version.
