Porn domain .xxx: Still no green light for the red light district
The stunned government advisory committee was told the whole idea has been put on hold. The ICANN chairman has told the open meeting, that there was not enough time to approve the proposal, apparently this is because a 350 paged document regarding the domain name feasibility needs to be reviewed. However it has been reported in the media, that this document has been released some time ago, allowing more that enough time for the document to be assessed. It is more possible, that the government has stepped in to prevent the .xxx from launching, but does not want the privilege for admitting that it is the one responsible for the hold-up. One may ask why would a company bother using that domain name? It is hoped it will regulate the amount of porn on the internet, although this may seem to be a futile exercise, perhaps those who use .xxx will be less lightly to ‘rip off’ or scam there customers due to it’s regulation.
